Add Latin flare to your garden with these little sombrero-shaped flowers. Each plant bears 3-7 flower heads of yellow and red-brown blooms, drooping rays surrounding a long, red-brown central disk.

This sun-loving, native plant is easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained, rocky, or mildly poor soil but it also tolerates light shade. Additionally, Mexican Hats can handle drought, though they will benefit from occasional watering in dry weather which also prolongs their flowering season.

These vibrant flowers make an excellent choice for hot, dry areas! Once mature, these Prairie Cone Flowers can be divided every 2-3 years, will attract butterflies, and even repel deer, now that is a recipe for a true garden fiesta!

This fast-growing plant blooms, on average from June thru September, and will provide a carefree and easy to grow burst of color that looks awesome as a wildflower, in a garden, or as a cut flower. Ole’!

Fun fact: There are 5 species of cone flowers ranging in color from yellow through purple. Colorado Hardy Plants carries several of these varieties. https://www.coloradohardyplants.com/product/echinacea-purpurea-purple-cornflower/

Description

Colorado Hardy Plants are just that… hardy! We have sought out plant varieties that provide low maintenance, use little or no water once established, and are simply hardy enough to grow where others don’t.

We grow and ship our plants in 5″ or quart-size (in certain varieties) plastic containers. Knowing that the root system is the most important part of the plant we guarantee. our plants to have a large root system that fills the container.

CHP is a small family operation! We propagate, pot, water, prune, and personally package the pants you order from us. Most of our plants are grown from cuttings taken from the plants or seeds collected nearby the nursery at an elevation of 6300 ft. Our weather is extreme with temps below 0 are common in the winter and intense sunlight all summer long. We don’t grow plants in heated greenhouses, they have to be able to survive the elements!

Please note that deciduous plants ordered in the winter months and early spring will have been pruned a minimum of 30% compared to photos and may have no leaves

Our nursery is also licensed and inspected by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Nursery Division and holds a current Japanese Beetle Certificate. We only ship USPS Priority Mail, so your plants are sure to arrive quickly. You’ll note in our feedback that our shipping process is a sight to behold. We love our customers so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  1. Jessica

Fantastic plant! Came packaged carefully with other plants and every single one of them was in healthy condition ready to go in the ground. Flowers stayed beautiful a long time. They all wintered well and are looking good as Spring creeps around the corner. Thank you for a beautiful product. Will be using this company for all my plant needs!

  2. Steph

These plants are amazing! When you made the comment to me that if they start to take over, I could just move some, they must have heard your words! This year I even have some coming up in another barrel at least 10 feet away. The little flying friends enjoy them, too. So glad you suggested them – really like them a lot.
